The Alter of Revision Where We Write Our Stories Anew

This piece started as a tribute joyful strength and feminine power captured in the expression of this woman. As I played with collaging colored bits into her hair, the inspiration of snakes and a play on Medusa evolved. A toy wooden snake found its way into the assemblage as I pushed the work beyond the canvas. When I thought it was done and sat with it for a while, I realized it was incomplete and needed an alter. Once I built and attached that, I knew immediately that an old wooden apple sitting on my bookshelves needed to be the first piece on the alter, sitting in conversation with the snake that descends down toward her shoulder. With this reference the story of Eve as well, the title became obvious to me and the piece easy to bring to completion.
